5. You don't have to enable either. If you find the picture is juddering on slow panning shots try enabling the "adjust refresh rate" setting. I'm not sure what circumstances require the "sync playback" settings as I've never had to use it.
6. No. Well, it makes no difference. The "boost volume" settings is for when you're using a stereo system and the movie has a 5.1 soundtrack. It attempts to improve the conversion of the 5.1 sound to stereo, though with mixed success.
