XBMC Random Crash on a MacMini (log and crash report inside)
#1
Hi all
Finally i've thrown out my giant and old windows pc to get a Mac mini as MediaCenter with the following cfg:

OSX Version: 10.7.1 (but also tested with 10.6.4 and 10.6.8)

Platform: MacMini 2010, connected to a 24" monitor via minidisplayport to DVI at resolution of 1920x1200. Connected to a DTS capable receiver through a TOSLINK cable (minijack to optical) to transport the 5.1 audio.
4 gb RAM, HDD SSD 60gb OCZ Vertex 2, storage on a Synology NAS 8 TB Raid 5 connected via Gigabit LAN.

Architecture: x86_64

Install Method: DMG, then dragged the app into the application folder

SVN Revision: XBMC PRE-11.0 Git:20111003-31113d1 (but already tested A LOT of builds, and also the stable 10.1, with same results)

Detailed Instructions to Reproduce the Problem:
My mkv are stored into a Synology NAS connected via AFP and always played very good in every situation on my old windows xbmc installment, even with the bigger of them (35mbit/s)
Now, with my apple mac mini i've got random crashes on random mkv. Apparently doesn't matter the bandwidth or the audio settings, or the render method (already tried all of them).

A curious thing: I've got 4 GB RAM on my mac, but when i open XBMC, on the system info the free memory detected is only 330 - 380 mb

The errors are the same using both Snow Leopard 10.6.4 through 10.6.8 and Lion 10.7 and 10.7.1, using both XBMC 10.1 and several nightly builds of pre EDEN.

OVERLAY::COverlayTextureGL::COverlayTextureGL(CDVDOverlayImage*)

you are running subtitles, some video with some subtitle is crashing. it should be repeatable. find the video, cut a sample, test that it crashes, http://www.dropbox.com the sample, post URL here.

Mmmmhhh, you're right.

I've tested the mkv i used to replicate the problem and if i deactivate the subtitles there are no crashes (i'm italian, and i like to train myself in english watching english movies with eng subs (also because recently i like english speaking more than italian translations ^_^ )

Maybe this evening i'll cut a sample of one of the movies and post it here

I experience a similar problem recently. Did you use MKVToolnix to create the MKV? There is a new update (5.0.1) that seems to fix a problem with subtitles (i have to check if this is related). Anyway: the file that crashes XBMC for me, played fine in VLC. In XBMC the subtitles are shown two times in some dialogs, instead of showing the next text onscreen.

EDIT: I remixed the same files with MKVToolnix 5.0.1 and i experience the same problem. So MKVToolnix doesn't seem to have anything with it i guess ..
