Anyone has this a blinking green line at bottom of screen?
#1
As the title says, when watching a movie in XBMC,
no matter what format it is and even genuine DVD discs,
i always get a blinking green line at bottom of screen...

its not there 24/7 but it appears quite often,,,
i looked on the NET, but all i found was maybe this link
http://forum.firecore.com/topic/4493
but thats it,,,

i tried a bunch of things but still,
if any of you know how to fix this, shoot!

thanks Smile

Man, that could be anything. I'm assuming you've checked all the physical cabling, so my gut is saying GPU frame buffer issue.

Try firing up another hardware accelerated application, like a 3D game. Or a 3D benchmark if you don't want something interactive.

Why does it have to be something else? I don't understand ...

well i dont understand why that would be the cause,,,

here's a video of another guy having the same issue as me:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x0NN1zztEzs

saw that line flashing!? lol crazy,,,

so, its not software issue as i tried to play the same movies with other players
VLC MPC and so on,,, same thing,,, green line appears,,,,

its probably the HDTV....
i'll try to remove the TruMotion feature of my SAMMY and see if its any better,,,

As it's only one line on the screen, and not random noise, that points to something more serious than a cable issue. It could the the screen or the graphics card.

As it only happens when playing a video file (using HW acceleration) that tells me that it can only really be the video card. (Unless it is happening all the time, but you can't see it because there's no black bars to contrast against?) This is why I recommend trying a different HW accelerated program.

i know this wasn't an easy one,
but i found this issue....

thing is, HTPC's dont play well with TrueMotion/NaturalMotion 120HZ LCD 1080P HDTV's..
Yes, i bought my HDTV because i liked the look of a movie
playing a 120Hz but,
pairing this with an HTPC = trouble,,,

first, you'll never get %100 fluid playback,,
thats just how it is,,
at some point in the movie,
you'll experience judder/stutter...
there's video settings you can play with in XBMC but,
its just not ending'up with a perfect playback...

now, my Samsung has an option where u can tweak the 120Hz effect,,,
so, toning it down a bit, made the flickering green line vanish!
wasn't that crazy too find?
thats total madness o.O

Anyways, i'll just play my movies without the 120Hz effect..
when i do that, all my movies play %100 perfectly no stutter.

But, i still believe i shouldnt be able to see a green line
even tho i cranked'up the 120Hz effect to the max...
i may contact SAMSUNG and see what i can do about that,,

ok guys thanks Smile

That's crazy. Your TV is too clever!

I guess all that intelligence is useful for watching TV from a passive receiver or a DVD player, but it falls over when both the display and the PC are trying to do clever stuff to the screen.

another test would be to to try a genuine DVD disc
playing from a separate DVd player and crack the 120Hz to the max again,,,
if i see green flickering lines at the bottom of the screen,
it means to me that my SAMSUNG has an issue...

but on the other hand, if it plays without issue,
means the TV is ok and its an issue 'strictly' related to PC's connected to TV's....

i'll test this soon,,

thanks

I hate LCDs, the kind of bologna you are describing is precisely why I bought a Plasma for my family room.

I realize this thread is kinda old but I was able to eliminate the green line by turning off the motion settings on my HDTV display settings.
