Mod chip and samba?
#1
hi, i am new to xbmc and hoping to do my first mod just to run xbmc. i have been reading through different forums and instructions on installing it and i am getting a little cofused.

from what i am seeing samba works the best for streaming video to and from external network storage devices. but i was looking at some mod chip comparisons and it looks like most do not support samba? originally i was trying to decide between the executer 3 and smartxx but if they don't support samba then what shoudl i use? (http://www.xbox-hq.com/html/xbox-modchip...xchip.html)

(my purpose for setting up xbmc is stictly for streaming the video from other places. almost like using it as media extender, but i need the versitality of all the file formats.) :help:

when it comes to xbmc, it´s the xbmc application that handles the samba client support, so it doesn´t have anything to do with the modchip.

the xenium chip support apparently applies to the xenium os, for which i found this description:

http://www.xbox-wired.com/static/xenium_ice.php
Quote: smb settings - the xenium-os has samba support to allow your console’s hard disk partitions to be accessible over a network with your pc; the xenium-os will also allow you to connect to network shares on pc or any device with samba support.

afaik this xenium-os isn´t even running when xbmc is running, unless it´s a feature of the bios (then i cannot comment on how exactly it works).

anyways, the lack of this support will not affect in any way your ability to stream all sorts of media to your xbox via xbmc.
Always read the XBMC online-manual, FAQ and search the forum before posting.
Do not e-mail XBMC-Team members directly asking for support. Read/follow the forum rules.
