Need help about movie folder structure
#1
I got all my movies sorted in the following folder structure:

\\server\videos\x264 movies\full x264 movies\a , b, c, and so on
\\server\videos\x264 movies\x264 movie series\a, b, c.....
\\server\videos\dvd movies\full dvd movies\a,b,c,......
\\server\videos\dvd movies\dvd movie series\

my tv shows is:
\\server\tv series\

The reason I split in example dvd movies and dvd series is to more
easily sort out which is single movies or collections.

This worked well when I used wmc and mymovies, but when I changed
to xbmc, the scrapers couldn't recognize my dvd collections.

Example:

The movie Once upon a time, man, had subfolders DVD1,2,3,...6
So I had to rename them to
Once upon a time, man DVD1
Once upon a time, man DVD2
....

I also had to compile the box set Once upon a time, man.

That worked, but when it cames to my stargate SG-1 collection,
it's been a pain in the ass the past 3 weeks.

Folder structure:
\Stargate\Stargate continiuum
\Stargate\Stargate SG-1\Season 1\Disk1....Disk5
\Stargate\Stargate SG-1\Season 2\Disk1....Disk5

So what kind of folder structure should I use?
Do I have to rename all the folders?

And also.
I've been trying XWMM, but that program can not fix my movie generes.
When I save, it's always back to what is was b4.
I've been trying XBNE, Media Info Plus, Ember Media Manager and Media Companion.
No one seems to be near the complexity of MyMovies, but unfortantly
MM do not manage fanart or work as well with xbmc as the others.

Any recomendations?

Welcome to the forum... Your first post and what a post it is... I hope you'll read some of these guides. http://lifehacker.com/5536963/the-ultima...dia-center

Coming from your experience with MyMovies etc.. I can see your points, but from my perspective it's like you're trying to over think the actions and structure of the programs.

The whole idea behind XBMC is to organize and put some structure to your collection, and add some worthwhile data to it. That said, I don't think I would have organized quite the same way you have it..just sayin. Keeping TV shows/series in a separate folder from movies is a good way of keeping scraping simple.

The scrapers look at the TVDB and take their info from what is listed... and as long as you stick to XBMC norms you shouldn't have an issue.

So for TV series:

Name of Series>Season 1>Name.S01E01.mkv should scan in...

If you want DVD mode, that toggle is in TV mode settings under the 'Content' menu.. So I think that is your trip up.... as well as your naming convention doesn't follow the rules. XBMC doesn't like the words 'disk #' and 'DVD' etc.. If your uncertain how TMDB has the particular show listed... go have a peek at http://thetvdb.com/?tab=advancedsearch and search for your show... note: the toggle on the bottom for DVD sort order. Keeping all your shows/folders and etc.. would be a chore if you didn't use something like 'theRenamer' http://www.therenamer.com/ which is a drag and drop program (whole directories if you wish).. I find it a gods send.

Now for the question of your movies... as noted in the previous paragraph, it kinda looks like you see DVD versions of TV shows as movies, but considering all the information is coming from the TV database for Stargate SG1 we'll label them TV shows, although some actually have listing in some movie database and these can be kept as movies. If you're having scraping issues with movies.. look carefully at the folder contents, XBMC sometimes hiccups on extraneous files, although some users seem to be able to keep all data for WMC and XBMC and flip between the programs.

I'm using the Pre-Eden nightly addition of XBMC and do use XWMM and I can change genre in any file without issue, you must save the change (same with my Dharma version), although you don't see the real change until you exit and re-enter the program (I guess it's the cache you're looking at).

I primarily use XVMM to create and edit 'SETS' of nice videos... Box Sets, Stargate Movies et.. on... great stuff. Use this system for Sets but it is a bit clunky... but easier than bringing an .nfo text editor ATM.http://wiki.xbmc.org/index.php?title=Movie_Sets Stick with XBMC for fanart... or get the new artwork downloader plugin and you'll never ask for more! http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=114633

I'd stick a whole whack of links to quick starter guides etc here, but it sounds like you're pretty well versed. I too came from the direction you came from with WMC and all the add-ons, and I can tell you it's worth accommodating XBMC as it follows better community guidelines and standardization; there is many pluses behind the scenes.

OK, I'm exhausted.
