I would like to see a "light" menu as a fallback much like there is a fallback mode in some linux distros, where if certain hardware requirements are not met the GUI menus load a less intensive version.
Quite frankly XBMC would be much more viable on lesser equipped systems which can perfofrm SD playback, but have issues with GUI using 100% system resources. I have seen GUI consume 100% of system resources seen on Windows with Nvidia as well as on 2 different Linux distros on a Mac Mini G4, and many oither systems in between.
The menus are the SINGLE MOST LIMITING FACTOR, not the playback
if course this might be in the form of a skin as well
Not everyone wants or needs HD, so why not accommodate the more basic systems?
