Release OzWeather - Australian Weather Addon using BOM data inc. animated radar support
#1
JUNE 2021 -

OzWeather V2 has just hit the main Kodi Repo.  It's pretty much a complete re-write, using the new BOM API.  Please post any issues (with debug logs!) - at the end of this thread.   After the new version is installed, please re-visit the addon settings to re-configure the addon with your new BOM locations (and you probably want to remove your manually entered radar locations too, as the addon now auto locates the nearest radar for you).

If you have any issues running the new version, especially if you use Profiles, make sure that the 'pytz' dependency is installed AND enabled (System -> Addons -> Manage Dependencies) - it must be enabled for the specific profile you are using.

If you use Estuary, Estouchy, Confluence, Xonfluence, Amber, or Aeon as your skin, see the Wiki for the new Skin Patcher tool to make installing the skin changes for animated radar support really simple!

Description

This Add On is for Kodi - all versions since way back (Frodo), all the way up to and including Matrix.
However, I am only supporting Matrix+ from here on out as things have been extensively re-written recently (in Python 3, and older versions of Kodi are not compatible).

Oz Weather fetches data directly from the (unoffical) Bureau of Meteorology API, and their radar image repository.
The BOM weather data is the only authoritative, high quality source of weather data for Australia.

For full details, instructions, etc - please see the addon's page in the XBMC Wiki.

I have also made a utility addon that helps you easily patch your skin files for the extended features like animated radars (Estuary, Estouchy or Confluence).  Please see the wiki for details.  Note this is not necessary if you just want the better basic weather data, so you can use OzWeather with any skin, of course.

Features

* Live, animated BOM radar maps - you can choose any BOM animated radar (by entering the radar code found from the BOM website, e.g. IDR023)
* Very accurate current observations (using the most local weather BOM observations, based on your location choice)
* 7 Day Forecasts
* Current day's extended forecast
* Direct access to 'ABC Weather in 90 Seconds' video, for a full national weather update
* Radar & mini weather when you pause video ('i' or 'm' on your remote) with supported skins
* Should support pretty much all skin weather labels
* Best results with Estuary, Estouchy, Amber, Aeon, Xonfluence or Confluence, using a custom MyWeather.xml (** see the wiki for a tool to help you install these).

Support OzWeather Development:

Over the last 10+ years, it's been a lot of work writing, updating, and maintaining this addon.
Donations for this addon gratefully accepted: https://www.buymeacoffee.com/bossanova808

What you get:

In Estuary & Estouchy it looks pretty much like this (with a local radar chosen here):

In Confluence, it looks pretty much like this (with the national radar chosen here):

I pushed a new zip this arvo with better longer forecasts as it happened.

I think so far it's only me that has tried it so would be good to see it work for others. Don't forget to to the Confluence skin changes if you want the longer forecast.

I really need help getting my repo going so I can push updates properly...

v 0.0.4 is up - removed a few crap characters from the longer forecasts, better icon mapping for thunderstorms, and there's a new MyWeather.xml in the Confluence skin changes zip that makes the layout work better with very long forecasts.

Cool, I'll update when I get home tonight. I had noticed a bunch of square characters ᴶᴶᴶ in the long forecast & would certainly prefer to view thisextra info.

I've looked at radar and think int ehory it will be do-able but I might wait until Ronie builds some support into his wunderground one and see if I can piggyback off that. He's way way way way better at this than me so I am hoping he lays out a nice infrastructure I can then just feed some different images....

Ha - You can actually tell WZ are themselves scraping this page to get their data:
http://www.bom.gov.au/vic/forecasts/melbourne.shtml

...you can see the same duff characters. Now I know what the 'Low-Moderate' after chance of rainfall is - it's the fire danger warning. Might have to hack that in so it's prettier...

Repo works great. Installed, restarted XBMC and the plugin updated immediately.

Long forecast is better, although some are still so long that they're cut off (see screenshot).
