How to Install XBMC PVR Xvba for AMD/Nvidia/Intel GPUs
http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid...pid1478195
Yeah saw that post.. Now I get better results
The AMD fglrx drivers on Linux limit the number of LPCM channels to 2, this only provides enough bandwidth for DTS (5.1) and AC3 (5.1). HD audio is not possible on Linux because of this limitation in the fglrx drivers.
I'm still getting some audio static over HDMI it's bearable to watch though. Only when I increase volume does it get annoying.
Nevermind had to edit my .asoundrc for a52 playback
http://www2.ati.com/drivers/linux/amd-ca...x86_64.zip <- another one, another try.

Patch needed for 3.11 kernel: https://raw.github.com/OpenELEC/OpenELEC...alls.patch (via OpenELEC)

First tests looked not too bad :-) Still only 2 channel audio though.
First decide what functions / features you expect from a system. Then decide for the hardware. Don't waste your money on crap.
Tested on iMac 2011, Lubuntu 13.04, kernel 3.8.30
Bad news : it's shown as 13.101 rather than 13.152
when running xbmc, CPU2 is 100%
The Mac gets quite warm.
I think I'm going to revert to 13.6
Mmmh, really? That was not the case for me.

Edit: Yeah, I see it ... it is not 100% but in sum too much, if you compare it with 13.6 and patched 13.8 xvba libs

According to
http://phoronix.com/forums/forumdisplay....-ATI-Linux
it's an evolution of 13.6 rather than 13.8, should we try to mix it as we did with 13.6 and 13.8?
Nope - the mix only repared CABAC=NO files. It was purely on the xvba side ... the rest will be history.

For now, i will reply to all AMD fglrx driver bugs: Buy yourself and nvidia graphics card.

Hummm,
it's hard to replace the graphics card of an iMac, or the GPU inside an A10.
I'm forced to stay on Catalyst for a while...

Anyhow, is it nvidia so better?
Yes - it works perfectly without an issue on the latest kernels.

You get Motion Adaptive Deinterlacing, Bitstream Audio, acclerated mpeg-2, mpeg-4 and 4K decoding for just 30$.

Wow!
My HTPC is far too young now, but I'm thinking about an upgrade in a couple of year, as soon as the technology will allow an intel/nvidia system
that has total TDP < 65W with a fanless graphic card.
normal intel dual cores have a total max TDP of 55W, mobile or T models <35, low power mobiles <17W...

I mean the total budget.
I've a fanless chassis that accepts up to 75W TDP in total.
This fits well with Fusion A10-5600, but I doubt that I can fit a similar intel solution.
Graphic card would need to be mounted horizontally and using pipelines to connect to the chassis,
and such card doesn't exist as far as I know.
I use HTPC for gaming as well.
Saw this on phoronix.

"You should continue using AMD Catalyst 13.8 Beta for Linux. We mistakenly posted a Linux AMD Catalyst 13.9 driver, which was older than the AMD Catalyst 13.8 Beta driver. Linux users can expect a new Linux driver coming in Oct, 2013"
Intel Core i5-11500, ASRock B560M-ITX/ac, 240GB SSD + 4TB  Western Digital Blue, Arch Linux, mythtv 31+fixes + TBS 6205 QUAD FREEVIEW DVB-T2
So - we should continue using 13.8 with the memleaks? :-) They are funny and can keep their driver.
