The AMD fglrx drivers on Linux limit the number of LPCM channels to 2, this only provides enough bandwidth for DTS (5.1) and AC3 (5.1). HD audio is not possible on Linux because of this limitation in the fglrx drivers.
I'm still getting some audio static over HDMI it's bearable to watch though. Only when I increase volume does it get annoying.

Tested on iMac 2011, Lubuntu 13.04, kernel 3.8.30
Bad news : it's shown as 13.101 rather than 13.152
when running xbmc, CPU2 is 100%
The Mac gets quite warm.
I think I'm going to revert to 13.6

Mmmh, really? That was not the case for me.
Edit: Yeah, I see it ... it is not 100% but in sum too much, if you compare it with 13.6 and patched 13.8 xvba libs

Nope - the mix only repared CABAC=NO files. It was purely on the xvba side ... the rest will be history.
For now, i will reply to all AMD fglrx driver bugs: Buy yourself and nvidia graphics card.

Yes - it works perfectly without an issue on the latest kernels.
You get Motion Adaptive Deinterlacing, Bitstream Audio, acclerated mpeg-2, mpeg-4 and 4K decoding for just 30$.

So - we should continue using 13.8 with the memleaks? :-) They are funny and can keep their driver.
