Hi,

first of all I would like to thank the xvba crew for all the efforts during the last two years.... Since I am currently fine with the xvba version I would like to keep it. However, currently i have a problem with my htpc.
I upgraded my TV from a Samsung UEC 6000 to a LG 6918. Now I have the problem, that when I boot the system with TV set switched off the picture of the xbmc box is completly crap. It's hard to describe how it looks, sometimes parts are O.K. but it is not usable. With the Samsung everything was O.K. When I restart lightdm or reboot the complete system (with the TV switched on) everything is O.K again.
The picture is also crap, if I switch off the TV (everything OK), restart lightdm, and switch the TV on again. Restarting lightdm again with TV switched on solves the problem again.

My setup Zotac AD10, ubuntu 12.04 (upgraded to kernel 3.8.0-31-generic), and the patched fglrx driver.

Do you have "Monitor" set to default? Try setting it to HDMI.

I just wanted to say thanks to whomever fixed the audio buffer underrun issue when outputting to optical/coax out (re-enc to DD 5.1) for PCM5.1/FLAC5.1/TrueHD streams. This now works perfect when using the 'Video clock (resample audio)' sync setting (which I've found works best when it comes to reducing random image jumps due to re-syncs every 1-2 minutes). It appears to have made it in in the last week or so (previously it was unusable due to the audio artifacts–so big kudos from me as this was a show-stopper)

I'm perhaps the only one on here running an Intel HD4000 setup, which lately has been pretty flawless. Having the audio issue fixed as well is a big plus and I'm closer to using XBMC as the primary system for movie playback.

btw.–good to see that the AMD users are finally getting some functionality on their systems.

I can choose Default and DFP2 in xbmc Settings Video Hardware Monitor. Changing this setting has no effect.

The Delay Calculation within Audio Engine is currently a mess and not really working out nice. If you ask the queue waterlevel while adding packets at the same moment, it cannot work exactly.

That is one point. Second point is, that TVs do something special when running at 24 or 23.976hz to match the refresh rate. Therefore we ship the following advancedsetings.xml with OpenELEC and it works quite well:

Since I have written the above post - months have passed. We have implemented a new Engine (ActiveAE) since then. Calculations are now correct, but there are issues with AVRs or TVs that introduce a standard delay when doing e.g. 24p. We measured this constant delay some time ago for OpenELEC and came up with approx 175ms for 24p and 24.0hz.

It is an issue for all hwaccels (xvba, vdpau, vaapi, ...) and even Software.

Since this topics build isn't updated anymore what PPA's can I use to benefit from ongoing Vdpau improvements?
Are any of the improvements already implemented in mainline like https://launchpad.net/~team-xbmc/+archive/ppa ?
Is the basic 'improved Vdpau' still at the level of xbmc-xvba-frodo or is it still being worked on? And how fast does it trickle down to any other PPA (like mainline)?

Most vdpau work has been commited to mainline. The main difference in these ppas here is currently the drop of SDL and some additional features for dropping / skipping within vdpau for dvdplayer.

Thank Fritsch, I have tested OpenELEC 3.2.3 and it runs great (AMD E350). HD audio is working now :-). However I have problems with my remote which does not approve all keypress (HD Plex remote board). http://www.hd-plex.com/hdplex-internal-m...ntrol.html. I have no problems in ubuntu minimal setup from this tread.
Is it possible that you can make an update and guide to https://launchpad.net/ ~ wsnipex / + archive / xbmc-xvba-frodo and the necessary updates to HD Audio so i can use ubuntu minimal ?

Nope. For me fglrx is dead, I won't invest anything in there anymore. The only things you need to do: Build kernel 3.11.5 with the relevant atihdmi5.patch.

Afterwards get your fglrx version patched and compiled.

I have an nVidia GeForce 9400, and when I tried building from sources, I get the following with VDPAU enabled:

My Video Playback render methods are Auto Detect, Software, Advanced Shaders (GLSL) and Basic Shaders (ARB).

I have a a separate xbmc sources folder that is at "commit fb595f23fbf4f4a4bc9297373f5f0138a1e01a9f / Bump version to final Frodo 12.0" where everything runs fine with vdpau. I think this commit hosed vdpau for me. I'm also going straight into an Onkyo TX-NR709, and my AC3 passthrough also stopped working, but I need to figure out who to bug about that
