Ahh ... forgot to ask if you were doing this via SSH or on the machine itself - If you're doing it from a SSH session you'll get an error stating no screen.

To get it to work from a SSH session, type this in first: export DISPLAY=:0.0

Then do the previous commands

Was just searching for "Unable to open audio mixer" and got this thread.

I'm getting the same error XBMC Live upgraded to Eden Beta 1, though in different circumstances.

This happens every time I pause a video file (doesnt matter which).

Ive snipped the log file, as it has passwords etc in there, but the important part is there I think.

Looks like the error Im getting may be fixed in the nightlies:

In case this helps someone else. Apparently the official xbmc unstable repo doesnt build nightlies as often as some other unofficial repos.

I added this repo:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:mario-sitz/ppa

Did a

sudo apt-get update

Then

sudo apt-get install xbmc

And it updated to last nights nightly, which fixed this problem for me. (But may have introduced others !). Be warned if using nightlies.

edit; seems to have worked, it's now using nightly from today (DD02\MM01\2012), well it's booted into the XBMC gui at least...So thanks indeed and thanks to all who have posted!
