[Wanted] - Google+ Hangout Video Chat Integration

I'm not sure how many of you have used the Hangout feature in Google+, but it's really cool for video chats/conferencing. It lets you video call with multiple people at the same time. It detects who is talking, and focuses the video feed on that person automatically.

I would love to see this integrated into XBMC! It would be nice to be sitting on the couch watching a TV show, and when a family member video calls me, it will pause the tv show, and show me an alert that I have an incoming call. I could then click to accept or deny the call. If I click accept, it would open the video feed full screen on my TV and I could then talk to the caller.

I know people have asked for video calling support in XBMC before, and I think this would finally be a fairly easy way to integrate that. There is some information on the Google+ API here: https://developers.google.com/+/api/

Now, this is a wishlist request from me. I don't have the programming skills needed to make this happen. But I would love to work with someone that does. I am good at creating layouts and designs. I also have lots of time to test. Anyone interested? Smile

Oh man I would so love this feature. We have a weekly family hangout and it would be so slick to have this integrated!

It would definitely bring many more google+ users to xbmc!

I don't think a proper google+/hangouts integration is possible at the moment. Check the api docs, it's very limited. The hangouts api is for making apps that run inside a hangout. I don't think there's any other way to participate in hangout except a web browser with the google video plugin installed (and the android g+ application on some android devices...)

Anyway for now you could just use the web browser launcher addon, thread at http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=68388 .

I would really like this as well, I have been trying to reverse the protocol over the last few weekends but it's pretty obfuscated. The FusionIM developer has managed to do a good deal of work on this: http://www.reddit.com/r/fusionIM/comment...ngineered/

I'll keep trying to get something working - even if I can get messaging working getting video calling implemented is a huge job. The easiest thing would be to just host the google hangouts extension code in a browser widget inside XBMC but that is pretty icky. The way hangouts is going - towards WebRTC makes a native implementation pretty difficult.

It'll keep me interested until I get bored.
