Stuttering playback on Acer Revo ION 3610
#1
Hello all,

I have used XBMC 10.1 for sometime now. With no problems. Until now...

After a recent reformat of my computer all my .MKV 1080p and 720p movies stutter all the way through. The same movies worked perfectly before the reformat.

This is my set-up:-
  • Acer Revo ION 3610
  • Windows 7 SP1
  • .MKV 1080p and 720p movies stored on local C: drive
  • Connected to 1080p HD TV via HDMI cable
  • Latest NVIDIA drivers installed from 285.62-desktop-win7-winvista-64bit-english-whql.exe

After the reformat i installed XBMC Eden, but there was stuttering, so i uninstalled it and put XBMC 10.1 back on (downloaded fresh from the XBMC website). But that stutters too!!!

I have pasted my debug log to the following location - http://pastebin.com/dh9BdDdH

I have the following settings:-

Settings->Video output
  • Display Mode = Full Screen #1
  • Resolution = 1920x1080
  • Use a full screen window rather than true fullscreen = DISABLED

Settings->Videos->Playback
  • Render method = Auto detect
  • Allow hardware acceleration (DXVA2) = ENABLED
  • Adjust display refresh rate to match video = DISABLED
  • Sync playback to display = DISABLED

I have tweaked the above settings, trying various combinations, but nothing seems to stop the stuttering.

My movies played through MPC-Home Cinema work perfectly without any stuttering.

I know Codecs aren't supposed to make a difference, but as a last resort i installed the latest K-Lite Full and K-Lite x64 packs. But this did not fix the problem.

There must be something i am missing, but i cannot figure it out, and none of the solutions posted in any similar threads have helped.

Could someone help me out please?

Fixed the issue.

In the end it was nothing to do with my video settings....

I had Settings->Audio output->DTS capable receiver = ENABLED

When i disabled this setting everything ran smoothly.

Hopefully this will help someone else out!!!

is the 3610 not fast enough to run 1080p and DTS in Windows? In Ubuntu it works fine.

Yes, if you don't have AVR to decode DTS you should not enable it! Smile
>Alienware X51- do it all HTPC
>Simplify XBMC configurations
>HOW-TO Bitstreaming using XBMC
I refused to watch movie without bitstreaming HD audio!

I am wondering if one that if he had a DTS Receiver if he would still get stuttering if he enabled the setting again?

Good question, but no way to test it unfortunately.

If you have a DTS capable receiver in between your TV and PC, it will not studder if you have the receiver on. It will studder if you dont' turn the receiver on.

At least on 1080p material. I didn't notice the studdering on 720p material. Revo 3610 win7 64bit w/ 4GB.

Don't ask me how I know. Smile
