Alright well my knowledge of the iOS file structure for Cydia and XBMC is limited, but I'm fairly sure that the problem is that in one of your source lists there is a misspelled URL.

Would you mind posting the output for the following?

Code:
ls /etc/apt
ls /etc/apt/sources.list.d
ATV2 running XBMC Eden (Skin: Quartz3)
Windows 7 running XBMC Eden (custom setup as I'm basically running it as a service)
MySQL installed on Windows 7 for sharing libraries

I'm not sure what to say, Cydia shouldn't have been uninstalled. I said it might fix it but I'm not familiar with the iOS areas and suggested instead that you give me the output of the ls commands. You might need to jailbreak again and start over. I didn't ask you to remove Cydia because I wasn't entirely sure what it would do...

You could try apt-get install essential then apt-get install cydia, I'm not sure how to reinstall cydia or even XBMC's reliance on it (if any)

Thankfully I was able to fix this for him by remoting into his computer. Anyways if anyone ever accidentally uninstalls cydia you need to re-add the Cydia repo to your sources then update in order to install it again. I don't remember the exact process but basically create a file called cydia.list and place it in your /private/etc/apt/sources.list.d directory. The file should contain:
Quote:deb http://apt.saurik.com/ ios/550.58 main
deb http://cydia.zodttd.com/repo/cydia/ stable main
deb http://repo666.ultrasn0w.com/ ./
deb http://apt.thebigboss.org/repofiles/cydia/ stable main
deb http://apt.modmyi.com/ stable main

Now:
Code:
apt-get update
apt-get upgrade
apt-get install cydia
ATV2 running XBMC Eden (Skin: Quartz3)
Windows 7 running XBMC Eden (custom setup as I'm basically running it as a service)
MySQL installed on Windows 7 for sharing libraries

I'm getting the exact same error as "djslugeur" - i must have copied the "hhtp" wrong and now i can't remove it and it's so frustrating trying to add XBMC onto my JB ATV2. I didn't delete cydia but i'm just stuck at this point:

You need to go into your sources and find the culprit that is preventing updating, since you've removed awkwardtv.list that's probably not it...

Run this command to find the file:

Code:
grep "htpp" /etc/apt/sources.list.d/*.list

The output will probably be one line that shows the .list file containing the htpp string, go into the file and change the word htpp to http.

You can do this via command line or (easier) load up winscp and navigate to the /etc/apt/sources.list.d directory and open the file and look for the line htpp and change it to http

Or if you know linux just open it up with vim and change the string

thanks - i just can't locate the file extension you mentioned above "/etc/apt/sources.list.d" to change the line via winscp. help?

Please post the Grep output

/etc/apt/sources.list.d is actually a directory, this is the directory that contains the *.list files
