Apple tv 1 gen + Apple USB Ethernet adapter
#1
Folks ,

Anyone tried to connected apple USB Ethernet adapter to atv1 ?
Most probably I need to copy kernel module and load it but I'm not sure
witch one and from witch Mac os release.

Anyone did that ?

I'd like use gigy instead of 100/10 since my entire home network gigy ready.
I suppose with a NFS I should be able to read over a net 70 Mb/sec at least.

Thank you.

Take a look here:
http://www.sustworks.com/site/news_usb_ethernet.html
You will find a driver that works for Apples USB Ethernet adapter for Tiger.
I guess Apples Adapter will the same as those featured on the benchmark at that webpage, but I dont know.
Slower than the built-in ethernet..since Apples adapter is too only 100mbit.

This one at Monoprice is Gigabit: http://www.monoprice.com/products/produc...1&format=2
I user on the Apple forums wrote that the speeds were approx 30MBs, roughly 3x the speed of the 100mbit adapters.

This will only make a difference for coping files from the drive. You can't play the data fast enough to max out the existing 10/100 ethernet port.

Sad I forgot that apples USB also 100Mbit and in any case I don't believe I'll be able to push Gigy over USB 2.0 on apple TV.

PS> I have some 1080p files those that encoded with insane bit rate , continuously buffering. I've tunned TCP/UDP stack / moved entire network share to NFS / enforced entire NFS to use only UDP and still I see a lot of buffering for mention files.

So I suspect I hit bandwidth limitation on ATV itself.

What is the bitrate of the file?
