Slingbox on XBMC - Here's How

Flash on Linux is terrible. This is coming from someone who develops flash applications for a living. However, try:

Code:
# if /etc/adobe doesn't exist, create it first
$ sudo echo "EnableLinuxHWVideoDecode=1" >> /etc/adobe/mms.cfg

Restart your browser and see if Youtube HD videos play back smoothly. Note that the above is a crapshoot and may not work on the newest versions of Flash.

Anyone know if there is a chance Slingbox Pro-HD will be supported. Can anyone confirm that the signal is encrypted and not able to be used with the Pro-HD? I'm running 11.0 on an Apple TV2.

What you mean with "a no-go on Linux" ?
You was the first one to show me how to easily use my slingbox from linux. Thanks!
This is working perfect with firefox and chrome on my LMDE system.

Flash for Linux does not support hardware acceleration. This method is fine for low-bitrate, mid-resolution streams, but it is sluggish on Linux if you want full Slingbox-HD video...

Flash for Linux does support hardware acceleration as of version 10.2.

If it does, how do you make it work in XBMCBuntu Chorome? You can go to http://slingplayer.slingbox.com/embedded...player.php and log into your Slingbox in the Flash application, but if you right-click "Video Info" you'll see "Acceleration=False". Tried on 2 differnt HTPCS. On Windows, you get "Acceleration=true" and, of course, smooth video.

The best option I have found is to just type --kiosk "http://watch.slingbox.com/watch/sling_player" instead of the one that is listed. The only problem I've found is I have to select full screen manually. I'm wondering if anyone has found a way to automate this process or perhaps there is a shortcut key for fullscreen I'm not aware of? This is in Windows 7

No idea on the specifics, but I have seen flash work in a browser on Linux, as well as Hulu Desktop for Linux. I'd test this out on XBMCbuntu if I didn't burn out my awesome mini-ITX mobo (I'm having issues trying to install it on my Mac).

1) Install Advanced Launcher
2) Create a “Stand Alone Launcher” and point it to your browser executable file. Chrome works great (for XBMCBuntu: /usr/bin/chromium)
3) For Arguments, use: -kiosk "http://download.slingmedia.com/player/embedded/v14/austinapp.swf" This will open Chrome in full screen directly onto Sling flash application (the same used on their Facebook App, buy bypassing Facebook)
4) For cosmetic sake, use a nice thumbnail, maybe this one:
5) You’re all set. You only need to log in the first time, and you can set “Auto Connect” on the app settings.

Now every time you select SlingPlayer on XBMC, it launches in glorious full screen, no need to log in, no need to select Slingbox, no nothing. To exit and go back to XBMC, Alt+4 is the only option I see so far, but there has to be a more elegant way to do it.

When I use http://download.slingmedia.com/player/em...tinapp.swf and I press any remote buttons, the video player completely locks up. Has anyone else seen this?

I have found that using to old SlingPlayer software works better than any of these web options on XBMC Advanced Launcher with a Harmony remote. Try it out...http://download.cnet.com/SlingPlayer/3000-2139_4-10573277.html
Much easier to navigate and map keyboard shortcuts

I've been accessing my Slingbox via http://slingplayer.slingbox.com/embedded...player.php. in Chrome for weeks now.

Since last week when I press on "remote", the picture is reduced but the remote is not shown.

Anybody else has this problem ?

Sorry to dig up an old thread, but I just wrote a greasemonkey script to make it go fullscreen on launch. Read the release notes as you need to append ?fullscreen=y to the url.

I gave a quick try on changing the channels but couldn't figure it out. I'm in my final semester of school so I may not have much time. If anyone would like to look into it and help out let me know. I also wouldn't mind writing a XBMC plugin that would allow you to choose a channel and switch back to xbmc with a remote.

I 100% agree.

I've been doing the same thing and it even seems to perform better in terms of quality.

I was trying to use the slingbox source in xbmc but I've always got the same results:

12:21:12 T:2697033024 NOTICE: DVDPlayer: finished waiting

I'm sure that all my settings are correct (password, ip addr, port etc.)
I have a feeling that the connection times out too soon, my slingbox (SOLO) is located far away and using other methods to view it do takes often longer than a minute to connect.

Is it possible to tweak the timeout settings for the xbmc client? I believe that it would solve my problem.

al_n, I've been able to get his working, but the URL needs to have the word /input at the end. Try [sling://administrator:[email protected]/input]

However, my problem is different, because it seems to force my slingbox to change it's input to antenna which shows me plain tv-style static. then i have to go into slingbox.com to run the setup tool to change my slingbox back to component input. Any ideas wqhy?

So re-reading that howto slingbox page, apparently it needs to be the number of the input on the slingbox that you want to use - Anyone know what how the numbers corrrespond with the inputs (antenna, aux, component, etc) on the slingbox?
