Any IR receiver working out-of-the-box with XBMCbuntu?
#1
Question
I am trying to get my XBMCbuntu system to be remote controlled by my Harmony remote. To this end, I have simply plugged in a IR606Q receiver that was supposed to work with XBMC/Linux but is not. I have followed nearly all tutorials, help pages and forum posts on this topic but without success.

So my question: Is there any IR receiver (preferably internal) that is confirmed to be working simply by plugging it in and maybe reloading lircd?

Thanks a lot!

My system in case it is relevant: Zotac H55ITX board & Intel i3-530, XBMC live from XBMCfreak, kernel 3.0.0-16

I use the HD-Plex internal one. Does well. Only bad thing is they never keep it in stock.

well my black no-name brand one has worked flawless with xbmc-freaks pre-Dharma, Dharma, and now Eden right out of the box. no fugging around. only thing I have to mess with is trying to get the suspend and resume from stanby working.

I have this black plain no-name one

I have 2 of these connected to my XBMCbuntu boxes and they worked with no configuration at all and no need to check 'remote send keyboard commands'. Info and back also work right out of the box.

I got mine at newegg (not available there anymore), but this particular remote is also sold under different brand names.

Hmm... I guess it's highly dependant on the board that you use as I have found several reports that my exact receiver is supposed to work (after maybe minimal tweaking) right after plugging it in as well.

The HA-IR01SV is not readily available around here and neither is the HD-Plex (which appears to be very compatible).

I guess I will try the flirc - if this does not work, I will simply use Windows. A quick check with dual-booting showed that the receiver was instantly recognised and usable. Thanks for the answers so far!

I don't know if this is applicable or not, but I booted up my box today and my IR receiver was working (could see the flashing LED), but xbmc wasn't responding to button commands. Rebooted and it was back to working normally. So, make sure and reboot a time or two, especially given that others have reported your IR device to work. FWIW, I have a (presumably Chinese knockoff) HP MCE receiver I got from ebay:

Sadly, rebooting did not help, I have done this countless times during the search for the error. Even using different USB ports and rebooting in between did not work.

That's why I wanted to have a receiver that is pretty sure to work, regardless of platform or motherboard or whatnot.

Thanks for the info with the HP remote, maybe I will try this one, cannot get any worse... :-)

Okay, a new serial receiver (from Atric) does not work either, but works with Windows. I am beginning to suspect there is something fishy with Ubuntu's support for my mainboard (Zotac H55ITX)...
