HDMI Audio Eden Beta 3
#1
Please excuse me if this is obvious but I've had a hell of a time trying every option configuration in the settings in Linux/XBMC to get audio over HDMI (and already had the optical an analog sound drop on my previous build so I'd like this to work).

If there is already a great source just let me know or link it.

Running Eden Beta 3 on Ubuntu
My video card is an PNY GeForce 210 DDR2 512mb PCIE 2.0

Any/all help is appreciated. I'm a Linux novice and long time original Xbox fan but I need to upgrade with the times.

Thanks

This may help: http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid...sound.conf
The XBMC team, plug-in devs, skinners, etc. do this for us for FREE in their spare time because they want to. Think about that for a second before you start bitching...

ok think i have got somewhere
key issue was in alsamixer 4 outputs were listed (wrong)
me being a noob couldn't really get around the guides id read repeatedly
so, i botted to xbmcbuntu on a seperate disc and everyhting was good
rooted through the filesystem and found the /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf
which xbmcbuntu had generated upon install
compared that against my live system and saw

options snd-hda-intel enable_msi=0 probe_mask=0xfff2

this is documented in many guides to setting up geforece 210 family cards

copied this to my real system, rebooted and now alsamixer shows one output, im not home to confirm but will try tonight to see if thats working

my confidence is a little short lived
i do indeed have only one output now on the hdmi
also, inside the ubuntu mixer and xbmc there is only one hdmi digital out

however, i still only have front left and front right outputs on speaker test, however, pulseaudio shows every speaker as working but no output is heard (5.1)

load-module module-alsa-sink device=hw:0,3

From the guide errornumber419 seemed to eb the fix, i assume pulseaudio didnt know waht to do with all the sound it had gathered....

one last problem here
5.1 works
dts works
stereo works
however, aac 5.1 is only apparently putting out hte left and right channels, i assume you need an amp capable of aac decoding? if such a thing exists? my amp is oldschool (dvd days) amd all i am getting is stereo output
