My answer is: How to do set-top box style auto-start up, *NOT* auto-login into the previous session. It's a pain in the neck these days with XBMCbuntu. It falls back to login screen after a crash and I (like others) don't have a keyboard/mouse attached to the box. Just out of curiosity, why XBMC has to move away from live to "*buntu" style system? It's supposed to be a Media Center, not a desktop computer, IMO. Cheers!!

XBMC Live Dharma was based on Ubuntu 10.04 (Lucid Lynx), just with all the GUI stuff removed.
XBMC Live Eden (XBMCbuntu) is based on Ubuntu 11.10 (Oneiric Ocelot) with a stripped down GUI. The GUI makes it easier editing skin files to your own liking, setting up wifi networks, etc.

I think, the type of people those who go that far to edit skin etc. normally very much close to the console than GUI. In fact, it's lot easier over remote ssh session than on a TV screen. It's an annoyance (when it crashes or hangs) then convenience to some extent.

On a separate note, does any one know why xbmc=autostart in the GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT (in /etc/default/grub) doesn't work any more? Cheers!!

There's already an Eden11.0 version that is in sync with the other Eden releases.

Not sure what you mean by lack of openness, since you can roll your own just fine if you want. Their sources are up on github. And they have a helpful community. Of course, it's a totally different concept from the Xbmc live CD, so you'll me more restrained as to what you can change/add functionality-wise.

Yes, that's what, kind of, I did so far. BTW, what's "Oneric cli"? Do you mean Oneric server or installing for mini-iso? Cheers!!
