This case is awesome choice for home NAS. I'll get one for my backup build.

I tried upgrading to the 5 beta 14 and lost access to nearly all of my shares. No amount of .cfg tweaking or permission script running would get them back! I'm back on release 4 having wasted quite a few hours I'm sad to say...

As it happens I have spare Atom/ION machines so I'm going to setup sab/sick on one of those and move my SQL server over for XBMC. Some of the issues I've read about with arrays not wanting to shut down and needing a drive that wasn't in the array discouraged me. Perhaps after awhile I'll try again. I think setting up an unRAID server from scratch for this would alleviate the share access errors at least so you should be golden!

I'll keep following your build as I know others who will be interested and I might yet be tempted back. I think I'd use an old IDE drive for data though and not waste a SATA port. Cache drives really don't buy you much speed I've found since a rev of SAMBA awhile back sped things up.

I hate to run yet another machine but at least this one will be very low wattage :-)

I'm not familiar with that particular BIOS but it appears that you have IDE mode set. For optimal performance in Unraid you need to make sure to set your SATA mode to AHCI. May want to check at the Unraid forums to verify this though.

unRAID supports also IDE sata type,,, not just AHCI...

If you are running unRAID 5.0beta4 onward, you must use at least version 1.6 of preclear_disk.sh for all features to work properly.

yes, and many did with success.

i know it sucks when stuff doesnt work,
i went through hell 2 days ago, check the forum for my SSD Died thread...

but even tho i suggest builds (that work),
i can't be responsible if hardware or software fails.
i do this as a hobby and not a job.
im not paid for what i do.
thats why those who want. can donate to me if my guides help'ed them along the way.

Now for unRAID support, i suggest you hop on unRAID's official Forum.
they are GURU's and they'll get it done!
