with 11.0 eden best way to control xbmc with newer hp mc remote, press green button and xbmc starts [not ms media center] and all functions work.

If you use the MCERemote add-on or EliteGamer360s scripts, both mentioned in that article, you'll find your remote works without any further messing around.
