Crystalbuntu (wiki) updates by itself (and all drivers, etc) automatically when you reboot. A major update is coming in the next month or two. Do you have a
Broadcom Crystal HD (wiki) card in your ATV1?

That's good to know. I thought perhaps there was a command I coudl run via SSH to check and update the drivers?
Yes, there is a Broadcom Crystal HD card installed. It's the BCM970015.
Where the stutters occurrs (regardless of what file i.e. 480p, 720p or 1080p), I see a lot of these in my logs (pretty much at the point it occurs):
- CALSADirectSound::GetSpace - get space failed. err: -32 (Broken pipe)
- CDVDPlayerAudio:: Discontinuity - was:390100816.084852, should be:390090738.919506, error:-10077.165346
- ERROR: GetDelay - snd_pcm_delay, alsa error: -32 - Broken pipe

Just a follow up. I switched from XBMCbuntu to Xubuntu 12.04. Performance has sky-rocketed. Boot, Shutdown and XBMC are very fast.

Sounds like a different issue, then. I'd make a new post about this. Maybe leave a note on the Crystalbuntu forums about it as well.
