play fine on my MBP but on my ER1401, they cripple the machine. playback isn't possible. whats weird is this is NOT on all of the releases from the same group. episode 244 will play fine, 254 will have problems.

anyway, is there any fix... or even dare i say it, alternative program to view these files whilst using hardware accel?

You can have the option, by selecting "Play using..." from the contextual menu, to use different programs to handle playback.
For troubleshooting and bug reporting please make sure you read this first (usually it's enough to follow instructions in the second post).

If you are using Windows to run XBMC, then you can use one of the XBMC Nightly Releases

I've tried out XBMCSetup-20120424-b55721a-master.exe and XBMCSetup-20120425-50f370d-master.exe, both work well in the playback of 10-bit video.
