some use EventGhost for what u want to do...
or directly edit the keyboard.xml of XBMC to meet their needs...

well if you fallow my links on the MCE remote setup.... its super easy keyboard.xml gets taken care of....

BIOS setting fixed up the power on/off.
I'll give your remote setup a try, didn't get a chance to check out temperatures, but I did watch a couple movies and nothing melted
