Eden ATV2 for iOS > 5.0 - link broken

I respectfully disagree that getting beta3 up and running is clear for those attempting to use NitoTV to get XBMC.

First of all harryzimm's instructions will work- but they duplicate some things. I've put the necessary steps in the code boxes below, and I've detailed what each line does for those struggling with this.

Code:
1. apt-get install com.nito.nitoTV (installs NitoTV)
2. Then install XBMC repo/app in XBMC
#You will now have the V11b1 from the repository which will not work on 5.1.1, you need Eden beta3
#apt-get update (unnecessary, NitoTV did this)
#mkdir -p /Applications/AppleTV.app/Appliances (unnecessary, NitoTV did this)
#apt-get install org.xbmc.xbmc-atv2 (unnecessary, NitoTV did this)
#mkdir -p /Applications/XBMC.frappliance (unnecessary, NitoTV did this)
Code:
3. wget http://mirrors.xbmc.org/apt/atv2/deb/org.xbmc.xbmc-atv2_11.0-3_iphoneos-arm.deb
4. dpkg -i org.xbmc.xbmc-atv2_11.0-3_iphoneos-arm.deb (installs the package)
5. rm org.xbmc.xbmc-atv2_11.0-3_iphoneos-arm.deb (deletes the file, this was mispelled as .debt in harry's post instead of .deb, as in the sticky and the real filename for those who didn't notice)

Also, you can go in NitoTV after this and do an update on your packages and try to install over the existing XBMC- it will simply say it's already up to date and change the status from Update to Installed. It will still list 11.0-0-b1 on the software page, but within the package info it will list 11.0-3. Smile

I don't mess with my ATV too often so I'm not an expert but I wanted to know exactly what was going on with NitoTV and XBMC after I updated to 5.1.1.. I'm sure others are as well.
I'm guessing NitoTV will update only once XBMX 12.0 is released later this year, at which point you'll be able to update to 12 from within Nito.

Hope this clarifies and helps someone.

After the JB released yesterday I tried many times and failed, in the process I documented everything. Today I finally managed to get XBMC installed, here are my notes:

Code:
INSTALL NITO
apt-get install wget
wget http://dl.dropbox.com/u/16129573/com.nito.deb
dpkg -i com.nito.deb
apt-get update
apt-get install com.nito.nitotv
reboot

in case of timeouts (zottd and modmyi gave me troubles) just comment the lines in this config file:

/etc/apt/sources.list.d/cydia.list

install XBMC

apt-get update
mkdir -p /Applications/AppleTV.app/Appliances
apt-get install org.xbmc.xbmc-atv2
mkdir -p /Applications/XBMC.frappliance
wget http://mirrors.xbmc.org/apt/atv2/deb/org.xbmc.xbmc-atv2_11.0-3_iphoneos-arm.deb
dpkg -i org.xbmc.xbmc-atv2_11.0-3_iphoneos-arm.deb
rm org.xbmc.xbmc-atv2_11.0-3_iphoneos-arm.deb

and just in case:

wget http://apt.awkwardtv.org/pool/main/com.nito.updatebegone_0.2-1_iphoneos-arm.deb
dpkg -i com.nito.updatebegone_0.2-1_iphoneos-arm.deb
rm com.nito.updatebegone_0.2-1_iphoneos-arm.deb

wget http://apt.awkwardtv.org/pool/main/beigelist_2.2.3-3_iphoneos-arm.deb
dpkg -i beigelist_2.2.3-3_iphoneos-arm.deb
rm beigelist_2.2.3-3_iphoneos-arm.deb

Everything works now, hope this helps

Anyone else having the issue that Dropbox says the users account has been disabled due to high traffic when typing the following command

wget http://mirrors.xbmc.org/apt/atv2/deb/org...os-arm.deb

and if so any ideas on an alternative location?

Yes! Bummer...

Perhaps someone could share it with us, or provide a new location for download? Please?

Thanks for the detailed instructions. Unfortunately, that dropbox link has been disabled by dropbox for generating too much traffic. Is there anywhere else to download it from?

edit: that's what I get for posting without refreshing.

Hi.

In this sticky a build of XBMC compatible with iOS 5.1 was linked to. Unfortunately, Dropbox has killed that link because it generated too much traffic. Is there another place to access the file? If not, can you upload it to another site?

Thank you so much for all the work you do!

Hello,

Same here. I wish I read this thread before updating to iOS 5.1. Is there a way we can help to get those files online again?

As Fej42 said, thanks a lot for your work! I bought my ATV just to install XBM on it.

Hi,

The link above is not working anymore (Dropbox has suspended it). Do you know any other place to get this file?

Thanks in advance.

Confirmed, Dropbox has killed that link with the following message:

"Error (509)
This account's public links are generating too much traffic and have been temporarily disabled!"

Can we get this reposted somewhere?

I know this has been posted like 4 other threads but I have to get this done in the next hour.

The dropbox acct has been suspended that has the aTV2 xbmc 11 beta 3 build. I tried some of these ones but they didn't work:

www2.frugalware.org/mirror/xbmc.org/apt/atv2/deb/

(Wishing I would have saved the .deb file when I did my other aTV2 yesterday)

I also found that frugalware site but it doesn't have the 11.0-3 file.

We need another mirror!!
