Linux No HDMI sound in A75M-ITX
#1
Question
Hi,

I recently purchased a HTPC:
- ASRock A75M-ITX
- AMD A6 3500
- Kingston 2x2GB HyperX 1600
- Tacens IXION with Power supply 300w
- Seagate 1TB

I installed ubuntu minimal, according to the XBMC wiki but I can not play any sound by HDMI, only by front jack.

I've tried Ubuntu 12.04 live CD and just can play sound by the front and rear jack if I select Analogic mode in Sound Configuration.
I installed ALSA and XBMC as the guide said and I tried to configure sound in XBMC by combining several options

Do I have to configure something in the BIOS? Or in ALSA? What's about HDMI_SPIDF jumper in motherboard?

Yes, I'm noob in Linux & HTPC Sad This afternoon I'll try with Windows 7 to discard motherboard/BIOS errors

Thanks in advance

Off memory there is a setting in the BIOS to enable sound over HDMI. I have the same setup as you, but have only managed to set stereo (analog) audio over HDMI, digital audio is not working. I have started a thread here http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=132798

Thanks for reply. Yes, I've readed your thread but I can't fix the problem with that info

I have following configuration at BIOS
BIOS -> Advanced -> North Bridge:
Primary Graphics Adapter : Onboard
Share Memory: Auto
Onboard HDMI HD Audio: Enabled

Bios->Advanced -> South Bridge:
Onboard HD Audio: Enabled
Front Panel: Auto
On/Off Play: Enabled

I've tried Windows 7 Ultimate with Asrock official drivers, but only Audio over jack working. In fact, managing audio devices in Control Panel the playback device 'Digital Audio (HDMI)' is marked as 'Not plugged in'. Only 'Realtek Digital Output' is plugged in.

I will keep trying...

Ok, I'm little embarassed. I didn't install Catalyst drivers on Windows 7. I've already done and Realtek HDMI Output is enabled!
Now, I'll try to install ubuntu and the Catalyst drivers. Some advise?

I'll post the solution, if I find it
