[Linux] XBMCbuntu - is my hardware ok?
#1
Question
Hi guys,

To make long story short. I have moved from xbmc on win to openelec cause of problems
I had with window (not xbmc related) + I wanted fast dedicated system.

There are a lot of problems with openelec so I am looking for better solution.

I know very little abut linux and just wanted to ask will my HW be OK for
XBMCbuntu.

I have i3 CPU on Zotac H55 and i use intell HD graphic as "video card"

thanks Smile

Hi Burke,

do you know what intel chip that is? I dont know much about XBMCbuntu but i would imagine it would be fine Smile ( I personally run fedora for my XBMC needs (and everything else for that matter!))
EDIT: forgot to say CPU should be fine, i assume that intel HD Graphic chip would be the built in one....

abeeson thanks for quick replay Smile

chipset is H55 Express

I lost two months of my life trying to get openelec tu run correctly,
just would not want to waste any more time, would rather go back
to win with problems it will bring back to me - than play around with
os i don't know again.

But I guess XBMCbuntu is stable as other xbmc releases

OK i had a look, turns out on the i3 the graphics are either a HD3000 or a HD2000 depending on the generation etc of the processor.

From the XBMC list of supported hardware you should be right, the intel GMA is hte lowest spec requirement and thats the old onboard graphics on a P4 Tongue

Other than that the rest is fine. Do you need passthrough audio (do you have an A/V receiver or just TV speakers?). If not it'll be a piece of cake, if you do there is a little bit of stuff that needs to be done.

I would expect XBMCbuntu to work for you without too much drama Smile

Thanks abeeson,

No i think my setup of xbmc is pretty basic, I have 5.1 computer speakers.

My setup is pretty basic i think some addons + sab + cp + sickberad

Just one more question - openelec had samba integrated - is it same here (or some other similar solution)?

Will give it a try .

Thanks

OK local speakers should be ok Smile

did you mean samba server or client? a Samba client is compiled into XBMC, as far as a samba server goes, its very easy to find and install one, though i cant speak for XBMCbuntu.....

Seems the same as most linux distro's, here is a link with some install instructions for a samba server:
