Hi, I'm really sorry if this is in the wrong section, but I just wanted to make sure that this remote receiver would work with XBMCbuntu.

It is a HP USB OVU400102/71 Infrared Receiver. (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/HP-Media-Cente...1730wt_892 )

I'm planning on using it with this remote, if it helps: http://www.amazon.co.uk/One-For-All-URC7...PQ787POEJQ

So, will it work? Or do I need something different?

If you want to use a normal IR remote, get a Flirc. Otherwise, get an MCE remote receiver. Both of those are easy to set up. Many all-in-one remotes support a specific MCE type (e.g. the MS or xbox remotes). Make sure that the all-in-one supports the HP MCE receiver. If it doesn't, perhaps consider the Logitech Harmony remote line or get the Flirc.

Most remotes/infrared receivers seem to work but may need some manual configuration. The linux kernel supports IR remotes by default now so (f)lirc isn't really needed anymore, using the kernel interface provides keyboard emulation for remotes so each button can perform many functions depending on the current window. I have an IR MCE remote that uses the RC6 protocol and that's how I have mine set up, it look a little manual configuration but it works great now.
