I just built a really threadbare htpc for my bedroom and loaded up xbmcbuntu 11.0. Everything seems to work fine except that I have no audio regardless of the content I'm trying to play mp3/flac/avi/h264/etc.
The strange thing is that the system/menu sounds work just fine.
I took a peek at the aslamixer and jacked up the master volume but all it did was make the menu sounds louder.
aplay -l shows:
card 0 - PCH - HDA Intel PCH - VT1708S Analog
subdevices 1/2
subdevice 0: subdevice 0
subdevice 1: subdevice 1
card 0 - PCH - HDA Intel PCH - VT1708S Digital
subdevices 1/1
subdevice 0: subdevice 0
