Just re-installed for the 3rd time (it was working before in the same system, no configuration changes).

I am getting an error message when trying to start the program:
CApplication: Create() failed - Check log file and see that it is writable

But the log is writable, not protected and under my ownership and here it is (the same everytime XBMC fails to start)

Can anyone help? I don't understand the error message or the last 4 lines of the log.

It acts as if you do not have proper graphic drivers installed (although it shows the GPU in the log) or DirectX properly Installed. Grab the latest drivers for your GPU and then try. If that doesn't work grab the DirectX web installer and run that then try.

I just re-installed with the DirectX web installer, my nvidia graphics drivers are up to date . . .same issue, thanks.

Are you trying to run over Remote Desktop?

Looks like it's stumbling on the graphics... delete or rename your copy of XBMC from the C:/program files (68) and C:\Users\Your_log_name\AppData\Roaming\XBMC this will put you back to square 1, then download the solid copy of Eden 11 and re-install under administrators rights.
Start it up... if you still have issues get into settings and turn on debug, otherwsie post a complete debug log to pastebin.com and link it here.

I haev read other accounts of this issue in the forums: it works and then it doesn't work (with no other variables changing)

I uninstalled XBMC, then rechecked that I had the lastest Video card drivers and DirectX, installed a new download of the current stable XBMC as Administrator, it worked perfectly (and I restarted the computer 2x), then an hour later I get the same error message and same log as what I posted above:

You can enable debug loggin by enabling it in the advancedsettings.xml file. If you do not have an advancedsettings.xml file, you'll need to create one and put it in you userdata folder to be read by XBMC. You can find this info on the wiki. If you have troubles, or I get time later, I will post a file for you to use.
