Thank you thank you thank you. I had no idea what scan recursively did, but turning it off sped my updates from 5-7 minutes to 30 seconds.

Yes but that makes it lose new media that it's downloaded inside a folder. At least that's what happens in my case. Is it not supposed to?

You should set up your folder structure better,
Make a folder movies,
In that folder you create a folder with the movie name and in that folder the movie in any format you use.
Mkv, iso, Blu-ray folder structure, etc.
And set your scan path to the movies folder.
This way every new movie is scanned,
Without looking into the folders where the actually movie is (recursive)

I thought about it but decided against it. I just rather to have a several movies grouped in folders instead of all of them in a single one. It really isn't very practical to exclude folders from library updates every month or so, so I may do it your way in the future but I guess I'm not ready to give up in the organization paradigm I've been using since forever (way before I even used xbmc, which I just started using a couple of months ago really). The seed of the idea has been planted though, thanks!!!
