[PATCH] Native WinLIRC support to XBMC for Windows
#61
I would like to revive this thread from the dead, hope you don't mind. I would be really really happy to see native support in xbmc, ofc I would gladly donate (once more) just for the sake of supporting the developers and this great community.

The Trac ticket says that the IR Server Suite supports Winlirc and so does XBMC

This would be nice indeed. I wonder would the team accept this as a pull request if it was made..

EDIT: ditched WinLIRC and now I'm using EventGhost with my IR receiver directly. WinLIRC support would still be nice.

Some devices work by polling the hardware. The more layers you have between receiver and the end program the less response the remote is going to be.
WinLIRC, the Windows port of LIRC (Linux Infrared Remote Control):

Active development of the WinLIRC package:

LIRC config files for supported remote controls:

Would anyone explain why Lirc support has been ditched in the XBMC win32 branch? Doesn't Winlirc send the same commands as Lirc ? Why do we still need to use an external apps to have such a basic functionality ?
