You don't need a special build for that. Just edit advancedsettings.xml. I have:
<fanartres>720</fanartres>
<imageres>512</imageres>
I'd only recommend increasing it on a 512M board. You'll need to delete
~/.xbmc/userdata/Database/Textures13.db
~/.xbmc/userdata/Thumbnails
to get rid of the lower res cached thumbnails.
