Hi there guys,

With the Pivos thread and lately the G-Box thread, I think it is about time to start the "Smart TV Box" thread. I hope to build up a user fan base. A group of other XBMC enthusiastic people, together raising this device up to the next level.

It has the more powerful AMLogic-M3 SoC, with 1 GB of RAM. It can run the nightly builds compiled with the --player-amlplayer config flag set. It is available from OvalElephant for $ 89,99

Let's build custom ROM's, help developing the Android port, give feedback and share tips & tweaks.

Nice! I think this makes at least four AMLogic Android boxes with confirmed HW decoding?

OK, I am trying hard to get a custom ROM working on the box. My Android development knowledge is very minimal Sad

I found this ROM development;
http://androidforums.com/stanes-roms/596...807-a.html
It appears to be the same ref16f as the Smart TV Box.

Tried to flash it, but after a early in the process it states the firmware is older then what's on the box (doh)

- So extracted the update.zip
- Removed the top two lines from META-INF->com->google->android->updater-script
Quote:assert(!less_than_int(1344299727, getprop("ro.build.date.utc")));
- Re-Signed the zip file
- Tried again

It look like it is getting a little bit further, but then fails and we need to reboot. After the reboot nothing changed.

Will try to dig a bit depper, but would appreciate some android specialist help Wink

The download links for apk's are not working.

This seems like a nice option! But I find it very hard to choose between the different boxes available. Which one runs everything and is most likely to be supported for a whhile?

I was a bit busy getting this freaking webserver back up in the air. I saw the 10 MBit issues, but can't remember I had any problems. I even played that Avatar 20 GB file !!!

I will check shortly (when all the systems are back online)

A new version of the XBMC Android APK is present in the download section.

This one is from the 1st of October, Just before the new October merge window was opened. I also see some development again for [aml] in the last couple of days. Thx Davilla!

My Android TV Box has arrived. Haven't had much time to play with it however worth noting:

- Supplied remote will turn the unit off, but not back on again. Need to unplug and plug back in to turn power back on.
- The XBMC Android APK I used plays music fine but videos are incredibly choppy.

I see that some people are running the g-box midnight 9-25-12 firmware. Is that worth using? I know it's early days but it would be great if we could get a reliable firmware release going - it doesn't look like Oval Elephant are working too hard to supply one..

Yes you can install the ZIP file from that Midnight ROM. It works a lot better.

OvalElephant is fighting hard to get his hands on the official sources which will make developing a lot easier then just tweaking around.

Hi Jinx,i'm also following your blog and you have suggested to install that rom.
I've been searching for instructions for how to install that rom and it seems
it can be done through system update, but i get the error:

assert(!less_than_int(1344299727, getprop("ro.build.date.utc")));

Could you please explain how to install that rom?

Any news about a linux version of xmbc on this device?

regards
