Hi there,
I was wondering if there will be any (future) support for the Widevine video streaming codec/protocol (video/x-widevine).
More and more online content providers start to use this method and it would be nice to have this codec/protocol supported?

Yes, in the netherlands it is being used by a couple of cable companys to view there content online.
It would be awesome if XBMC could support this.

I guess once ffmpeg has support for it and we do the next ffmpeg version bump after that - XBMC will support it too.

Support for Widevine would be great for all UPC (Liberty Media) countries, as the Horizon is introduced in The Netherlands first but will be introduced in other countries, like Switserland, in the coming months/quarters.
EDIT: Widevine was bought by Google a few years ago. However, up to this day they only support Windows and OSX (besides specific STB's). No Linux and so far no freely available version for Android! The strange thing is that the Widevine website still mentions support for all kinds of mobile platforms and Android, but since Google bought it they seem to have removed support for these platforms.

As long as it won't be a dead hype like hi10p - well its still an ffmpeg issue more then an xbmc feature request...
