[RELEASE] Apple Itunes Podcast Browser (video/audio plugin)
#1
I finished one of my biggest addons, the Apple Itunes Podcast Browser.
Image
It is a multi-content Video and Audio plugin which provides access to all Podcasts listed in the Apple Itunes Store - there are more than 10.000 Podcasts with each 10-100 Podcast-Items available!

Features:
- List Video or Audio Podcasts by Genre or sub-Genre (over 60 genres overall)
- XBMC Frodo multi-content ready (In XBMC Eden you have to manually choose Audio or Video)
- Search for Podcasts by title, author or summary
- Manage favorites (open context menu on a podcast and choose "Add to My Podcasts")
- Support of 27 Itunes Country-Stores (You can choose the country in the Add-on Settings)
- Automatic Thumbnail-View (you can disable in Add-on Settings for Podcast or Podcast-Items View)
- Podcast Metadata (Title, Thumbnail, Summary, Date, Size, Author, Genre)
- You can set the list size to 300 (100 default)
- Using jbel's very nice Add-on mini framework xbmcswift2.

I would be very happy if you could test it and give me some feedback.

Changelog:
Code:
1.0.0
- Initial release in the Eden-Repository
0.9.1
- changed add-on name to "Apple iTunes Podcasts"
- fixed spaces in search term
- fixed keyboard dialog after context action
0.9.0
- initial release
Features:
     - more than 60 genres
     - audio and video Podcasts
     - search for podcasts
     - manage "My Podcasts" favorites

Download:
Version 1.0.0 is in the Repo.

have fun,

Wow! Just wanted to say that this is fantastic!

Had a little play and one small issue is that when you search for a podcast(s) i.e. "bbc" and are presented with a list of shows, after right-clicking a show to add it to "my podcasts" rather than returning you to the list of results to browse further, the addon returns you to the search box again. Thus to add all my favourites from the bbc (and that's a lot of favourites) I had to redo the search each time. No big deal, but time consuming and I can't believe this is the intended behaviour?

Regards,

Jim

Thanks for reporting - I fixed that behavior Smile

Version 1.0.0 is in the official Repository now (it can take a few hours to have the mirrors in sync).
1.0.0 is feature identical to 0.9.1.

Have fun,

Hi sphere, 5 Stars -addon

The Version I am testing 1.0.1,
My Setup: Lan to HTPC / Win7/ XBMC 11.0 Eden

For some reason , some large Video cast , for example Apple keynote
Under >Technology>Apple keynotes>"Apple special event october 2012"

It take very long time to "buffering" , 2-3 mins,
It did not start streaming immediately ?
and after 3 mins of playback , it start buffering again ?
also show "cache full" after buffering finished again

Is there a room for improvement ? or limitation for Hardware/software ?

Hi,

there is nothing I can do against your issue: Plugins are only providing playable URLs to XBMC, the playback is fully handled by XBMC.
Sounds like you have problems with your internet connection/bandwidth. Are you using WiFi?

Wow this is great - well done for writing this it is really appreciated

on my system I'm having problems saving to "my podcasts"

Pinguy (Ubuntu 12.04) with XBMC installed as a separate login option - it may be nothing to do with your add-on and something to do with my setup (I'm still trying to get my head round it)

any thoughts would be welcome

hi,

thanks for this addon. i found a problem accessing the podcast called "MacManiacs.at - Apple, Gadgets, Technik u.v.m." by getting a script error.
Sorry i have no debug log because i am not at home right now.
Could you please take a look, it should be easy to reproduce?!

Thanks!

This Feed isn't a video (or music) podcast - its just a html/text/image feed. The error you get is just because the Add-on couldn't find a valid video, which is correct.

This Feed shouldn't be listed as video podcasts - but this needs to be fixed by either Apple or the Provider (macmaniacs.at).

Sorry - Nothing I can do against but thanks for reporting!
I will show a notification like "No Video/Music found for this Podcast" in the next version.

regards,
sphere
