I'm just wondering how one sets up this tv show view that is shown in the confluence image gallery. It looks like the container backgrounds have been made transparent and also the locaiton of the episode list and episode details are swapped from default.

Yes, it is...
You need the view itself, need to include it in includes.xml and link the view ID and its include in MyVideoNav.xml
