Concern - Adobe Protected HDS
#1
Hello

I have a concern regarding the usability of XBMC in the future as more broadcasters appear to move to Adobe HDS, especially Protected HDS.

Whilst there have been attempts to decrypt the streams, my understanding that these will all fall foul of the American DMCA laws, which, whilst not all of us think that highly of the US or like their laws, have to be respected.

This creates a problem. To date, major broadcasters such as France Television, Channel 4 4OD and the less-important Channel5 Demand 5 service have all moved to PHDS.

More worryingly, the BBC appear to be using HDS (currently non-protected) for YouView.

The result is that unless the sessions can be played in a genuine Flash player or the streams reverse-engineered which would be illegal, they will be inaccessible to XBMC.

Do the XBMC masters have any plan to deal with this move to HDS natively ? What are the thoughts ?

Thanks

Surely tho, if content is being provided free via services such as YouView and mobile apps subscription free, then XBMC is just an extension of that and so not illegal. Have you tried contacting BBC and the like to look at the possibility of an endorsed add on for XBMC?
