Plex Media Server: good choice?
#1
Hi,

I'm currently playing my media files with XBMC on my server/htpc box (running whs2011)
But I'd like to stream all that contents, DLNA & over internet!
Serviio don't allow streaming over internet, and WMP is not very flexible for both settings, quality and codecs.
Plex Media Server seems to be a good solution, with DLNA, internet streaming and metada support.
I see that XBMC can use the pleXMBC add-in, but I'm not sure that it is a good solution:
- How good the plex streaming? compare to native XBMC directory path ?
- All formats supproted?
- What about subtitles, embeded or not?
- And other wondeful XBMC functionalities: scrapers, subtitle download, .. Will they still work?
- maybe it's possible to set plex Media Server as "passthrough" for XBMC client?

Or another alternative is to keep XBMC standalone (no interractions with plex), and configure Plex only for dlna/smartphone streaming.
(Need to maintain two metada libraries Confused)
