Buffering issue?
#1
I have searches the forums and have failed to find a similar issue.

I recently built a new htpc. It is running Windows 7 with Frodo Beta 3 and I am streaming from a Windows 7 computer. They are both hooked up to the same router. I have tried both worked and wireless connections.

Every 5-15 minutes ANY video (any file format, quality, etc.) will pause for about 1 second and say buffering. When I press O to see how much buffering cache is being used it says 0 B. I have tried changing the advancedsettings's cache me buffer in the correct location and format, but nothing changed.

I have also tried new drivers, no change. Only moving the file to the hard drive on my htpc does it not buffer. The speed of the connection is also plenty fast enough, I can transfer an hour of 720p to the htpc in minutes.

Please help! Thank you!

is your router a gigabit router if not maybe think about investing in one you can get a cheap TP-link one for about $50 don't let the price fool you TP-Link is a quality brand i have owned several routers and modems and Wifi adapters and had no problems if the router you have is only 100mbps and you are trying to streem HD video this can cause the issue in my experience anyways i have two gigabit routers on my network and get no buffering issues even when streaming 1080p video don't even bother with wireless if possible wired ethernet is the best option by far

here is a screen shot of me playing a full 1080p movie the file is 30gb in size and is streaming over my gigabit router and about 20 feet of cat6 ethernet cable at 36-37mb/s

I have a Belkin router. It is a gigabit router while the Windows 7 computer with all the movies is only capable of 100 Mbit/s.

The above is from a 720p 15gb ~4 hour file. (requires 8 Mbit/sec about)

XBMC's buffering cache isn't used at all besides for YouTube.

Just thought I would post an update:

I dug up an old router and plugged it in. Buffering issue gone! Problem is old router has terrible wireless range.

Went ahead and bought a Netgear N900, works great streaming wirelessly.
