I have a created a advancedsettings.xml file exactly as instructed. It changed nothing none of the changes made to the file did anything.

Can't see the contents of your advancedsettings.xml from here, so impossible to tell if what you entered in that file was correct or not, or if what you entered was even applicable to what you were trying to accomplish, which you also did not explain.
