Problem: watching videos on XBMC, human voices lack bass and sound mildly chipmunk-ish, rendering dramatic scenes moderately comical. Not in a good way.
XBMCv11 (Eden), Aeon skin.
Ubuntu 12.04 64-bit with Unity 2D
nVidia GeForce 240 processing both video and audio, via HDMI cable to TV
I suspect that the problem is between 44.1 kHz and 48 kHz settings, but I don't know where to find them or how to change them. I've read elsewhere that people running much older versions of Ubuntu addressed this by editing asoundrc, but I'm wary of applying 4-year-old solutions given how many changes have been made to the way Ubuntu and XBMC deal with HDMI audio.
Any suggestions?
