What does PVR look like in the GUI?
#1
I have a working NextPVR install and am trying to get XBMC working as a client. I installed the addon and did the configuration (i think) however, I cannot find any way in the XBMC (V12) to acces the PVR?

I can find no documentation whatsoever on what a working PVR client looks like or acts like in XBMC.Can anyone help me out on this?

Thanks.

Make sure that you're using the default skin, as many other skins don't currently seem to support the Live TV functionality yet. Then go to Live TV on the main menu, and you should get a TV guide down the side and a small video window on the right side that shows the currently playing channel (and you can then toggle into full screen). The Live TV section should look like this:

The recordings section for viewing recordings should look like the other video libraries in XBMC.

Do you see the Live TV option on the main menu? What happens when you try to browse channels?

Hope this helps

I made some captures with NextPVR and SD/ATSC HD and HDPVR LiveTV trying to highlight differences between the Pivos XS, RPi, and OpenElec My goal was showing cheap clients but it might help with the UI too. It really was designed to show the worst not best.

(Skip ~2 minutes in too miss the load)

Here is the Pivos boot + XBMC PVR load + some channels changing

Pivos channel changing has improved since then here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4QZOhtMvhY0

Here is the RPi boot + XBMC PVR load + some channels changingwith RaspBMC

For comparison here is OpenElec on an ION (the boot + load is only 40 seconds but I couldn't capture it because of resolution changes crashing my HDPVR2)

Overall OpenElec is a bit fastest but the Pivos is best at handling channel changes. I haven't felt the RPi love yet and over Christmas the Pivos XS was $80 at several places so I think it could end up being a better deal than the RPi too especially as they are talking HD Audio pass through now too.

It certainly is great having good choices under $100 and $200. Atrue HTPC it faster and I don't hang changing channels but the look is the same.

How did you get channel logos?

Someone uploaded a nice Canadian set of transparent pngs for SageTV http://forums.sagetv.com/forums/download...o=cat&id=4 and I just unzipped them to the Media\Channels folder The NextPVR wiki http://www.gbpvr.com/nwiki/pmwiki.php?n=...annelLogos has other sources

Astra,

Thanks,

I found an extra "enable" button in the settings appearance that was preventing the Live TV option from appearing.

Astra, where'd you get the channel logos from? I'm in Oz, and haven't had much luck getting all the logos.

Thanks in advance!

Thanks Martin, actually having something to look at brings things far better into perspective!

I am intrigued though. I have yet to get a successful channel change with RaspBMC and the NextPVR add-on, let alone the slight increase in speed with which I see you have LiveTV working!

cheers

For me it is hit or miss on both the RPi or OpenElec but the Pivos XS wins. On 'real' htpc's things are also fine. In the RPi demo my typical hang on channel change is there at ~2:50
