I have Frodo on Ubunto 12.10. The screen blacks out for 5 - 10 seconds after 10 minutes of play. It then resumes playing.
The following appears to have resolved this:
xset -dpms
xset s off
I don't think the (xset s off was needed) I do not know what negative side effects may result from the above. I will try adding this to a wrapper script for xbmc to set and then unset these options.
