I have a PC running windows 7 through an integrated intel hd graphics 3000 through a sony str dh520. I have had no problems for years. All of a sudden any movie with AC3 audio has no sound and the video is majorly sluggish. When I play the same file using VLC I have no issues whatsoever. Any ideas of what I should check first?

have you tried playing one of the movie's pressing pause then bring up the menu at the bottom of the screen click
on audio osd and then check audio output is on analog
