XBMC crashes at startup
#1
Sad
unfortunately XBMC keeps crashing on my freshly installed XBMCbuntu partion.

(I can login correctly to the XBMCbuntu graphical interface, also when I start xbmc from there it crashes 2 sec after showing me the XBMC logo)

Crashlog can be found here:
http://pastebin.com/hCPtLc16

Anyone can point me in the right direction on what might be causing this?

Any help highly appreciated.
Best regards.

update:
When I run XBMC on another Ubuntu OS (dual boot system) the application also crashes:

Crashlog here:
http://pastebin.com/qZWNmvuG

If I got either the XBMCbuntu or the XBMC inside my other Ubuntu OS working I would be saved.

Hey uNiversal,

thanks for your response, all information I could find is given below. This is for the situation of XBMC running inside my Ubuntu 12.04 OS, I will ignore the XBMCbuntu for now).

Let me know if I forgot to provide information.

1. FULL Debug Log (Please use your favourite paste site! See below.) << NOT OPTIONAL!
Is Debug Log the same as crashreport? (I cannot enter the GUI to edit the debug options)
My Crashreport is here:
http://pastebin.com/qZWNmvuG

2. If you can, get screenshots to illustrate problems (See below)
Not applicable I suppose

3. "Latest" is NOT a revision, of ANYTHING! (See below)
XBMC v11 "eden"

4. Linux Distribution and Version (See below)
Ubuntu 12.04.2 LTS

5. Architecture (e.g.. i686, x86_64, etc. (See below)
i686

6. Install Method (PPA, RPM, build.sh, manual, other)
ubuntu Software center

7. GIT Revision (See below.)
I can't figure out where to find this (since I don't get into XBMC, is it possible to get this from a terminal?)

8. Detailed Instructions to Reproduce the Problem (The more specific the better.)
Every time i startup XBMC it crashes just (0.5 sec) after I see the XBMC home screen appearing.

9. Backtrace (Only attainable if XBMC has crashed. See below.)
Can you tell me how i can find the correct path to my Core Dump? (Run "gdb /path/to/xbmc.bin /path/to/core" )

10. Compiler Output (Only useful if XBMC doesn't build. See below.)
Not applicable I suppose

Eden is not supported, however I know if you installed Eden on 12.04 and using AMD GPU you need xvba ppa which supports ATI. Mainline or official builds apprently dont support ATI well, because of hardware acceleration etc.

I can tell you for nothing thatt you dont have any proper drivers installed as your log says.

00:53:11 T:3014887168 NOTICE: GL_VENDOR = X.Org
00:53:11 T:3014887168 NOTICE: GL_RENDERER = Gallium 0.4 on AMD RS780
00:53:11 T:3014887168 NOTICE: GL_VERSION = 2.1 Mesa 8.0.4
00:53:11 T:3014887168 NOTICE: GL_SHADING_LANGUAGE_VERSION = 1.20

And thats not any driver you want to use.

I suppose we are missing your GPU type but also you need to definetly install proper drivers to begin with.

In the meantime I did a complete reinstall of the OS, I ran in tot many problems after the last upgrade (driver problems being just one of them).

Everything appears to be working fine now, enjoying my xbmc setup again :-)

Thank you for pointing out the driver issues.

Optical drives and usb drives are clearly hated by XBMC with a vengeance.
