Shot in the dark but maybe it is a filesystem problem. Certain filesystems like FAT won't recognize longer filenames.

Are you sure it's not an issue with the file sharing protocol or something else outside of XBMC? Try creating that test file on the local disk and see if XBMC File manager will list it.

You are right.
I tried another web server and it works.
So this is not XBMC but some strange behavior of the web server.
Weird because the browser displays the files correctly...
So it could also be XBMC that does not handle the input correctly?
