Is there a way to include an UPnP device into the file library? I've added both my Series and Movies folders from Serviio but their content doesn't show under the movies and tv series tabs on the XBMC main window . There also isn't an option to set content type like there is with folders added from the hdd.
So far the only way to access my serviio shares is to go to each file manually through the file browser which isn't effective at all

No, not supported.

You can try creating a favourite for that share and, if your skin supports it, you can then create a custom shortcut on the main menu that opens the favourite.

That's a shame, are there any plans for future support?

The problem is that UPnP uses dynamic paths which doesn't work for the library.
