HD Audio, settings not working as expected
#1
I just tried XBMC 12.1. I tried some settings but HD audio is not working as expected.
I am using an ION-based PC connected via HDMI to a Denon AVR-3808 receiver. The ION should be able to bitstream Dolby Digital, DTS and Multichannel PCM. Although the receiver can decode TrueHD and DTS-HD bitstreams I am limited by the capabilities of the ION-chipset. I therefore enabled AC3, DTS and Multichannel PCM in the audio output.

When testing a bluray-rip with DTS-HD MasterAudio I found that:
- With DTS enabled and multichannel PCM enabled in the audio output settings, the core DTS was bitstreamed to my receiver. I expect the superior multichannel PCM here.
- With DTS disabled and multichannel PCM enabled in the audio output, it got multichannel PCM. This is fine except that regular DTS was now also send as multichannel PCM.

What I'd like to achieve is that:
- Dolby Digital material to be bitstreamed as Dolby Digital
- DTS material to be bitstreamed as DTS
- Dolby TrueHD material to be bitstreamed as multichannel PCM
- DTS-HD material to be bitstreamed as multichannel PCM

There doesn't appear to be an option to achieve this?

enable dolby digital /ac3
enable dts
enable multichannel lpcm

disable everything else.

You must be connected via HDMI though.

If I enable DTS and multichannel LPCM, I will only get the core DTS when the source has DTS-HD sound.

a. DTS must be streamed as DTS.
b. DTS-HD must be streamed as multichannel LPCM.

b is not working.

If you have an ION-1 - this is expected, it simply does not support it.
First decide what functions / features you expect from a system. Then decide for the hardware. Don't waste your money on crap.
