Can someone please tell me how to turn off subs when they're set to run during streaming? I see no settings, so I have no idea if they're hard coded, or activated through XBMC.

Wouldn't that depend on your streaming source and/or what (e.g., add-on) you're using to do the streaming? Check your add-on's settings in its context menu to see if there's an option for subtitles (e.g., the TED Talks add-on does).
